CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Momiji Inubashiri
CANON: Touhou Project
CANON REFERENCE: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Momiji_Inubashiri
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
YEAR IN SCHOOL: HS2
ENROLLMENT: Sponsered by another family.

APPEARANCE: Momiji is of somewhat average height, appearing to look slightly taller than she actually is due to often wearing platform shoes of some kind. She is androgynous, though not to the degree as some Touhou characters. Having a gender neutral name and generally masculine personality doesn't help much. That being said, she doesn't particularly MIND being mistaken for a boy. It actually helps her be taken more seriously. The way she dresses tends to reflect this, though she switches it up a lot with more feminine clothing on the occasion. Beyond that, she is fair skinned, with white hair and red eyes. No, she is not an albino. And she will likely be annoyed with anyone that tries to say as much.

PERSONALITY: I'll begin this section by emphasizing that Momiji's personality is shaped after the ideal qualities the Japanese expect of dogs. While they aren't far from the "man's best friend" standards held in the West, they do come across less like best friend and more like best subordinate/soldier qualities for the most part. Both play large roles in how Momiji's personality has shaped in canon as well as how it will be shaped in this AU, with a few exceptions that will be noted.

Momiji is a very cooperative person, for the most part. She likes helping others and will go out of her way to aid someone. She often goes above and beyond the call of duty, which is why she is the so well trusted with her family name and their sword style, having earned that position through constant diligence and discipline. She executes all that is asked of her (either by her parents or her teachers) well and without question. Her pride as an Inubashiri has her take her position in life VERY seriously.

Momiji also exemplifies loyalty, having extraordinary pride in who she is and what she does. Her clan's security firm and the family's they work for, above all things, are what she serves. But beyond that, she is also loyal to her friends and family. Momiji, perhaps more so than any other character in Touhou canon proper, is one of the only characters you can trust to have your back at all times no matter what happens. Which is all the more remarkable when you consider my next point.

Aya Shameimaru, Momiji's assigned "superior", and Momiji get along like water and oil. Something about Aya, and her largely irresponsible attitude, just riles Momiji up something fierce. She has a distaste for people like Aya in general (reckless, irresponsible, and arrogant), but Aya in particular, perhaps because of their close relationship, can really bring out Momiji's anger and frustration. But even with all that being said, she's always stuck by Aya when things got rough, protecting her and helping with her plans, no matter how zany. It speaks remarkably to what kind of person Momiji is when she can work so well with someone who honestly gets under her skin like that.

In closing, Momiji is the loyal watch dog. And her personality, in canon, is shaped around this. There are some fanon interpretations that make her into something of an affectionate puppy like thing, but canon pretty clearly contradicts this. Momiji is a strong, proud individual. A good student, a good colleague, and a good friend.

COMPUTER APTITUDE: Very little. She can type well enough, but anything beyond simple HTML coding is beyond her.

AU HISTORY: Unlike Hatate or Aya, Momiji is NOT born to a wealthy family. At least not as wealthy. Born near Lake Suwa in Nagano, Japan, Momiji is the eldest daughter of the Inubashiri Clan. In the days before the Meiji Revolution, they were considered retainers of the highest lords in the Nagano region, brave warriors that defended the people from all comers. Post World War II, they rose to fame once again as an elite security firm that staffed some of the most influential families in Japan, including the Himekaidou and Shameimaru families.

Momiji grew up in the same company of those she would eventually be trained to protect. As early as elementary school, she was in the company of Aya Shameimaru and Aya's "rival" Hatate Himekaidou. Momiji was told, perhaps jokingly, by her parents to keep Aya safe from any bullies. Momiji took this job pretty seriously, hoping to be like the super heroes on television. Unfortunately she quickly became aware that Aya's smart mouth was what put her in danger more than anything else, and Momiji was even from her earliest age playing damage control more than "protecting". It's popularly joked amongst the three that Aya learned to run so fast in order to get away from Momiji when she started lecturing the girl on her behavior. She got along marginally better with Hatate, but she still groaned at their collective immaturity.

Life beyond that was simple for Momiji. She grew up amongst many siblings, often having to take care of them on her own while her parents were busy. To say that Momiji's maturity was jumpstarted by this lifestyle would be correct. She had to learn at an early age how to take care of herself and of others. She honestly is grateful for it, in the grander scheme of things. It would help prepare her for the kind of lifestyle she was being essentially groomed for.

Momiji was no different from any Inubashiri. She trained in various martial arts, including judo and kendo, from a young age in preparation of inheriting the duties of her family. Athletic, smart, and dutiful, Momiji exemplified the ideals of her family and was well on her way to the top consideration to inherit the Guard Captain position of their elite force. That was, of course, until her lifelong "friends" Aya and Hatate were shipped off to France for being insufferable brats.

Momiji's first duty, it would seem, with the firm would be to act as the "subordinate" to Aya in her time at the school and ensure she doesn't get into any trouble internationally. Aya's family, the Shameimaru clan, paid damn good money to ensure as much. Seeing as Momiji couldn't inherit the Guard Captain title until she was 20 anyways, her parents saw no issue in shipping her off as well, with the Shameimaru family sponsoring it.

Momiji was, understandably, not happy about this.

SAMPLES
INTRANET/1ST PERSON SAMPLE: You know something I don't get? The phrase "raised by wolves" implying that someone is wild or uncontrolled. This is really insulting to wolves, you know. They're one of the most well organized social structures in the animal kingdom. They keep themselves orderly, almost to a fault, so to imply they are somehow otherwise just because they're wild animals is stupid. In short; wolves are awesome, STFU.

In other news, we've got emergency practice lined up for the kendo team. I know you guys are tired, but sensei is really trying to drill these techniques into your heads and a lot of you just aren't getting it. I can help out as many of you as needed, but I can only do so much if you all don't start applying yourselves more. Really now...

LOG/3RD PERSON SAMPLE: One two three, CUT. One two three, CUT. Momiji went over the drills over and over and over. Each time the shinai swung downward, her mind imagined the abstract things before her she was cutting down. After all, a blade swung without intention to cut is useless. That was the first rule of fencing, wasn't it? No motion could be wasted...

Though, after awhile, the abstract matters Momiji pictured in her own mind... idleness, arrogance, selfishness... They soon gave way to more concrete matters. That kid who said she had been raised by wolves appeared. He was cut down for his ignorance and lack of respect for nature. How disgusting children could be... Her chemistry teacher appeared. That man who so arrogantly taunted her for getting basic formulas wrong while the rest of the class laughed. He was cut down as well, infuriating Momiji with his arrogance and lack of patience. The dorm maintenance worker appeared. She was cut down for leaving her kendo equipment strewn about. How disrespectful of her! She had no understanding of the traditions she sullied!

And then... as usual, Aya appeared before her. But her blade could not cut her. As always, the moment Aya appeared in her mind's eye, Momiji froze with the shinai right above her head, panting. Damnit... why couldn't she just hate her? She was nothing but trouble. Her life would be easier without her. So why... why was it so hard to just leave her behind? Damnit...
